These codecs are to be used for Meridien JFIF and Uncompressed media on Mac OSX, Mac OS9, and Windows 2000/XP. The Windows 2000 codec will work on Windows XP.

Codecs Avid pour Windows XP Quicktime Codecs LE 1.01

To install the OSX codecs:
First you will need to unstuff the download. You will find the two files AvidAVDJCodec.component and AvidAVUICodec.component. Place both of these files in the folder /Library/QuickTime/. You will not need to reboot in order to use these newly added codecs, but you may have to restart any applications that were using QuickTime.

To install the OS9 codecs:
First you will need to unstuff the download. You will find the two files Avid Compressed G4 and Avid Uncompressed G4.
Place both of these files in System Folder/Extensions. (If you want to save the old files, drag out the old codecs and save them in a different folder outside of the System Folder.) You will need to reboot in order to use the newly added codecs.

To install the Windows 2000/XP codecs:
First you will need to unzip the download. You will find the two files AvidQTAVJICodec.qtx and AvidQTAVUICodec.qtx. Place both of these files in C:\WinNT\System32\. (If you want to save the old files, drag out the old codecs and save them in a different directory outside of the WinNT directory.) You will not need to reboot in order to use the newly added codecs, but you may have to restart any applications that were using QuickTime.

These codecs are not for use with DV media on Avid Xpress DV or other Avid products. However, many Avid Xpress DV customers have been interested in the whereabouts of these codecs.

Avid Quicktime Codecs LE 1.01

The Avid Quicktime Codecs LE 1.01 installer will install the following codecs in the Windows System32 folder for system wide use:

AvidAV1xCodec.qtx

Avid 1:1x codec (Uncompressed MXF 8-bit)
AvidAVd1Codec.qtx Avid DV 100 codec (MXF)
AvidAVdnCodec.qtx Avid DNxHD codec (MXF)
AvidAVdvCodec.qtx Avid DV codec(DV 25 and DV 50, OMF and MXF)
AvidAVpkCodec.qtx Avid Packed codec (Uncompressed MXF 10-bit)
AvidQTAVJICodec.qtx Avid Meridien Compressed codec (OMF 8-bit)
AvidQTAVUICodec.qtx Avid Meridien Uncompressed codec (OMF 8-bit)

This installer does NOT include:

AvidAVmpCodec.qtx Avid MPEG 50 codec (MPEG-IMX, OMF and MXF)
AvidQTCodec.qtx Avid ABVB NuVista codec (OMF)

DV25 Codec

The new version of Avid Xpress DV ships with separate DV25 codecs that can be installed on any computer without the need for a dongle or license. These codecs can be used with any QuickTime compliant application (for example, After Effects) for the decoding of Avid-generated material as well as the encoding of DV25 material for reimport back into the Avid Xpress DV application.

The use of these codecs give an excellent workflow story: DV footage created in Avid Xpress DV can be transferred into third-party software without the need to reconvert the material, saving time and retaining quality. The same applies when rendering files in the third-party software: The material is created in the Avid DV-native resolution, so the quality will be preserved when reimporting it back into the Avid Xpress DV application

For details how to install the Macintosh and Windows specific codecs, please see chapter 19 of the Avid Xpress DV 3.5 User's Guide. Please note that the Macintosh version of the DV25 codec will only work on OSX. There is no codec for OS9, however it is possible to export QuickTime files using the standard Apple QuickTime codec.
